Taurus in Vedic Astrology

There are many layers to astrology, but at its core, every birth chart is made up of three main components: the planets, the houses, and the zodiac signs. The planets represent different functions of consciousness. The houses show where those functions manifest in your life. The zodiac signs show how that energy expresses itself.

The zodiac always follows the same order and is divided into twelve signs, or Rashis in Vedic astrology. While each sign shares a natural connection with a house, they are not the same thing.

The sign shows how the energy manifests. The house shows where it manifests.

For now, we are focusing on the signs themselves and the unique energies each Rashi brings to the birth chart.

Taurus - “I Own”

Taurus, or Vrishabha in Vedic astrology, is the second zodiac sign and is concerned with value. What is worth keeping? What is worth building? What is worth protecting? While Aries initiates, Taurus preserves. Once something has been created, Taurus wants to nourish it. Heavy Taurus placements often manifest as patience, persistence, loyalty, and a strong desire for stability. These qualities come from its ruling planet, Venus. Taurus is the first of the three earth signs and represents the foundation. It is connected to resources, wealth, comfort, security, and the physical world itself. It is Rajas in nature, giving it the desire to acquire, build, and experience life through tangible results. Taurus is symbolized by the Bull, a creature known for its strength, endurance, and unwillingness to be pushed before it is ready. Once Taurus decides something has value, it can be remarkably difficult to move.

The Moon finds both its Mooltrikona and exaltation in Taurus because the sign naturally supports the Moon's need for nourishment, stability, and emotional security. The Moon wants to feel safe, and Taurus is one of the few signs that actively tries to create that safety. It wants a stocked refrigerator, money in the bank account, people it can rely on, and a life that feels predictable enough to relax into. Rahu is also exalted in Taurus because the sign supports its desire to acquire, experience, and engage with the material world. Rahu always wants more, and Taurus gives it fertile ground to pursue resources, wealth, comfort, and achievement. Ketu, on the other hand, is debilitated here because its desire for detachment often clashes with Taurus' desire to preserve. Taurus spends its energy building attachments to people, possessions, and experiences. Ketu spends its energy trying to let them go.

Taurus Through the Big Three:

Taurus Sun:

The Sun represents the self, and Taurus Suns usually aren't interested in building something that disappears six months later. Whether it's a relationship, a career, a business, or a collection of Beanie Babies, they want to know there's some actual value there. Taurus is a sign that understands investment. Not just financially, but energetically. If they're going to pour themselves into something, they want it to be worth keeping.

Taurus Moon:

The Moon represents the mind and emotions. Taurus Moons often find comfort in what is familiar. They tend to open up slowly, but once they do, their loyalty runs deep. The challenge with this placement isn't forming attachments. It's knowing when something has outlived its value and needs to be released.

Taurus Ascendant:

The Ascendant represents how we move through the world. Taurus Ascendants can be frustrating if you're trying to rush them. They like to see where they're putting their feet before taking the next step. People often mistake this for stubbornness, but a lot of the time it's just caution. Taurus would rather move slowly in the right direction than sprint confidently into a disaster.

As always, this is the foundation. There are countless ways Zodiac energy can manifest, depending on the chart. If you would like to explore how these themes show up through characters and archetypes, check out Archetype Archive.
