Gemini in Vedic Astrology
Gemini is the third sign of the zodiac and is associated with communication, learning, curiosity, and the exchange of information. After Aries begins and Taurus preserves, Gemini asks, "Okay...now how do we understand what we've created?" But just like Taurus, I don't really want to spend this blog listing personality traits you've probably heard a hundred times.
Instead, I have one question. Why does everyone think Geminis are fake?
Somewhere along the way, people took the idea of Gemini's duality and turned it into "two-faced," but I just don't get that leap. This is what happens when pop culture waters down an ancient science. I mean, people who know absolutely nothing about astrology will confidently tell you Gemini and Scorpio are the worst.
Bruhhh.
I think the first thing I want to clear up is that in Vedic astrology, Gemini isn't even freaking twins. It's a couple. A man and a woman. I hope that little piece of symbolism gives you something new to think about because I actually think it's really important. Twins suggest two versions of the same person. A couple suggests two completely different perspectives. Those are very different ideas.
We also have to remember that Mercury is androgynous. It represents fluidity amongst other things like communication and adaptability. Mercury is curious. It gathers information from one place, compares it with another, and carries both perspectives forward. That's literally what communication is.
So when I see someone with strong Gemini placements having an engaging conversation with an artist about creativity, and then turn around and have an equally engaging conversation with a scientist about physics, I don't immediately think they're fake. I think they're fluent.
Now, can that ability be used for manipulation? I think we all know the answer to that. Just like every other placement in astrology, Mercury can express itself in healthy or unhealthy ways depending on the rest of the chart. An afflicted Mercury can become deceptive, dishonest, manipulative, or even malicious. But that's not the same thing as saying Gemini itself is fake.
Generally, Gemini isn't changing perspectives because it doesn't know who it is. It's changing perspectives because it's trying to understand the world from more than one point of view.
