Rahu in Vedic Astrology

Now that we've covered the seven grahas, it's time to talk about Rahu. Rahu is the north node of the Moon and one half of the nodal pair, Rahu and Ketu. Rahu fascinates me because it refuses to fit neatly into a box. I eat that shit up. What do you mean it's not even a planet, yet somehow it still gets to do whatever it wants? There are traditional significations, but Rahu has a habit of breaking its own rules. That's part of what makes Rahu so difficult to define and, honestly, so damn interesting. While Rahu is often associated with challenging or malefic effects, this rebel can also bring astonishing blessings. I love a good paradox.

Unlike the seven grahas we've covered so far, Rahu has no physical body. Rahu and Ketu are mathematical points created where the Moon's orbit crosses the Sun's apparent path through the sky. Even without a physical form, they're considered two of the most powerful influences in a birth chart. Rahu and Ketu always sit directly opposite one another, creating a karmic axis that points toward the experiences we're here to navigate in this lifetime. Rahu is deeply connected to desire, ambition, and the things we feel driven to pursue, while Ketu represents what we've already experienced and are learning to let go of. Together, they tell one of the most important karmic stories in a chart.
