Ketu in Vedic Astrology

We made it to the final graha in our series, Ketu. As I mentioned in the Rahu article, one cannot exist without the other. Rahu is the head, Ketu is the body. It carries the memory of past-life karma and the qualities that already feel familiar or mastered. Wherever Ketu sits often comes naturally, but it can also create detachment from that area of life. Ketu points toward liberation through release. While Rahu pulls us toward experience. Both forces are necessary. One pulls us into life, the other helps free us from it.

Unlike the seven grahas, Rahu and Ketu have no physical bodies. They are mathematical points created where the Moon's orbit crosses the Sun's apparent path through the sky. Even without a physical form, they're considered two of the most influential points in a birth chart. Rahu and Ketu always sit directly opposite one another, forming a karmic axis that highlights the experiences we're here to navigate. There is a darker side to Ketu. It isn't all meditation and Kundalini. Like every graha, there can be a shadow.
